Weather photos are rolling in

If you want to see some examples of adding weather photos, I present you with two extremes: cumul.us user tbit took some shots of the snowfall on a crisp winter day in Toronto, Canada, and Dominica_steve caught a nice sunset on the Carribean island of Dominica.

It’s great to see users from all over the world, from San Jose to Starkville to Stockholm to Singapore and everywhere in between, predicting the weather and taking photos in their area.

If you’ve tagged photos that appear on cumul.us, feel free to point to them in the comments!

So how is the weather score calculated?

Added by Debbie on May 11, 2008 at 10:11am

The score is based on several factors. The conditions each have a weight associated with them, and so how far off each prediction was from the actual weather matters. The temperature difference between the prediction and what actually happens affects each score, but not as much as being off on the conditions (the difference between rainy and clear is greater than the difference between 55 and 58). Also, time you submitted your prediction affects the score, as someone who predicted something correctly days or weeks or months in advance gets a better score than a prediction that happened during or at the end of a particular time period (because at that point, you already sort of know what it will be like.)

Hope that helps. Any other questions?
